About Kim Miller

Kim Miller is the owner and primary instructor of Hearts in Harmony.  Hearts in Harmony was developed through Kim's love and compassion for animals and the people dedicated to care and protect them.

Kim has over 40 years professional experience working with dogs and other animals, with the majority of that time spent in the animal sheltering and control field.  She retired in 2014 and decided  to use her knowledge and experience to help animal care professionals through educational workshops that address the emotional impact of their jobs, and to provide dog training to the community in an effort help keep dogs out of our animal shelters.

Kim is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and Fear Free Professional Trainer, who studied extensively with internationally renowned positive trainer, author and behavior consultant Pat Miller, earning the distinction of Pat Miller Certified Trainer (PMCT).   Kim continues to further her education in dog training and behavior by attending workshops, seminars, webinars and conferences on a regular basis.

Kim's skills as an instructor came from her involvement with the Virginia Animal Control Basic Academy, where she obtained formal training and has been providing instruction since 1994.   Currently, she provides training on Compassion Fatigue to Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy Animal Control Basic, as well as coordinates and provides instruction for the Virginia Animal Control Association's Animal Facility Operator School.

Kim received her Compassion Fatigue Instructor training from TEND Academy.

Kim is a professional member of the Pet Professional Guild, Association of Professional Dog Trainers, Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement, Virginia Animal Control Association, National Animal Control Association and a Pat Miller Peaceable Paws Affiliate.
